Graphite

Graphite

Graphite is an ideal material for use in high temperature applications in vacuum or inert atmosphere due to it´s unique properties.

Svenska Tanso supplies a wide range of both isotropic and extruded graphite, each grade having its own unique properties. This makes it possible to select the most suitable material, meeting most of the requirements our customers might have.

As graphite is produced in large blocks or rounds, basically any kind of shape or design is possible to produce.

Graphite features:

– High heat resistance and superior thermal shock properties

– Excellent thermal and electrical conductivity

– Self-lubricating

– Superior chemical resistance

– Good machinability

– Low density

The application areas are several – only imagination is the limit.

In order to improve specific properties of graphite, such as high density and oxidation properties, increased ware resistance in high temperatures etc. we provide different type of surface coatings and impregnations.

Graphite paint, alcohol- as well as water based, for surface-/dust protection of graphite insulation, lubrication etc.

Water based SIC-coating for surface protection agains oxidation.

We also supply plasma coating with Zirconium oxide as a surface protection against carburizing and wetting of metals in brazing- and heat treatment processes.

In cooperation with Toyo Tanso we supply CVD-coatings such as SiC and TaC on graphite.

Graphite powder

We offer graphite powder for various applications, natural as well as in synthetic grades.
Some grades are standard stock products, others are customised.

Carbon brushes

Carbon brushes

The carbon brush plays the important role of sending electrical current between motionless and rotating parts by sliding contact. Since the performance of the brush has significant impact of the performance of rotating machine, the choice of brush is a critical factor.

Toyo Tanso Group develop and produce carbon brushes for a variety of customer needs and purposes, applying the superior technology and quality assurance know-low that we have developed over our many years of research in the fields.

Carbon has self-lubricating properties and low coefficient of friction due to its layered crystal structure, making it highly abrasion resistant.

With its excellent electrical conductivity, carbon can offer a stable, optimal level of electrical resistivity, which is enhanced by appropriate selection of materials and production process.

Carbon has low coefficient of thermal expansion, which means that it hardly has changes in shape or quality even at high temperatures.

Graphite sheets

Graphite sheets

PERMA-FOIL® is a flexible graphite sheet exclusively made from specially processed natural graphite without the use of a binder. After the initial thermal expansion process this unique material is finally compacted, giving this material its extreme flexibility and high heat and chemical resistance.

PERMA-FOIL® has excellent self-lubricating properties due to its layered crystal structure. Since PERMA Foil® is produced only from natural graphite without using a binder, it is stable in the wide range of temperature (-200°C3200°C inert atmosphere)

The thermal and electrical conductivity is excellent parallel to surface, and PERMA-FOIL® is optimum as a heat release material and as a heat transfer material.

PERMA-FOIL® graphite sheets has excellent purity and are therefore optimum for use also in semiconductor, IT, or nuclear energy industry applications.

Typical applications:

automotive gaskets, general industrial packing, parts for semiconductor equipment, corrosion resistant seals, IT industry, drip shield for vacuum furnaces etc.

Graphite insulation

Graphite insulation

Mechanically stable insulating materials in form of plates or cylinders for thermal insulation at temperatures from 800°C and above.

Plates are manufactured either by impregnation of soft felt or by mixing and molding the fibrous material with a binder, followed by a final heat treatment.

Standard plates 1 500 x 1 000 mm are available in several thicknesses and with a protective layer of graphite foil, graphite paint or CFC.
The most common thicknesses are 20, 30 and 40 mm and they are often used as insulation of the heating chamber in vacuum furnaces.

Soft felt is also widely used in vacuum furnaces as thermal insulator.

The soft felt material is available on rolls with a standard width of ~1 200 mm and a thickness of 5 or 10 mm.

Graphite Insulation is also available in larger sized blocks, up to 1 500 x 1 500 x 250 mm.

We process any of above material to your desired design.

Mechanical carbon

Mechanical carbon

Carbon sliding materials have excellent self-lubricating properties, heat resistance and chemical resistance. This means they can be used in high-temperature atmospheres where ordinary metal sliding materials cannot, and in fields where fluids and lubricants are inappropriate. Various resin- or metal impregnations can be applied to get the desired material properties in our high quality mechanical carbon materials.

Excellent Self-Lubrication

Carbon has self-Iubricating properties due to its layered crystal structure, making it appropriate for use in high-temperature atmospheres and in applications where fluids and lubricants are avoided. In particular, its coefficient of friction in an unlubricated condition is low compared with other materials, making adhesion difficult to occur.

Excellent Thermal Durability

There are virtually no changes in the mechanical strength and slide properties due to heat.

Excellent Chemical Resistance

With the exception of inorganic chemicals (strong oxidizers), carbon has excellent chemical resistance.

Thermal Shock Resistance

The coefficient of thermal expansion is lower than metal materials, and it has good thermal conductivity. This means that the material hardly ever cracks, even during rapid temperature changes.

Supports Lightweight Designs

The bulk density is low compared to metal materials, which support lightweight machinery designs and a reduction in friction noise.

CFC

CFC

CFC (also known as C/C composite) is a carbon-carbon composite material, reinforced by high strength carbon fiber for the purpose of improving strength and shock resistance of carbon materials.
It is a hi-tech carbon material that is equally selected for general industrial use as it is used in advanced technological fields such as aerospace and semiconductor industry.

High strength

CFC has higher strength, flexural resistance, and resistance to cracking and chipping, compared to isotropic or extruded graphite materials.

Heat resistance

Thanks to the use of carbon fibres, it is a heat-resistant material which can be used in inert gas or vacuum furnaces at temperatures up to and above 2000°C.

Light weight

CFC has low density. The combination of low weight and high strength gives the benefits of long life time, safety, easy handling and cost savings.

Hight thermal conductivity

A thermal conductivity higher than copper has been achieved (in CX-2002) through the use of carbon structure control technology, which involves the Toyo Tanso superior chemical vapour infiltration (CVI) treatment.

We manufacture and supply components of graphite and CFC to applications such as:
Vacuum furnaces – Heat treatment – Vacuum brazing – Sintering etc.

We also support in designing.
